A systematic review of the literature suggests that ketogenic diet therapy (KDT) could reduce the frequency of seizures in infants with epilepsy with mild side effects.
Why this matters
Epilepsy is a neurological disorder which has the greatest incidence in children within the first two years of life. Approximately 20%-35% of children with epilepsy are drug-resistant and cannot adequately achieve seizure control. The results of this study show that using KDT could be a promising treatment for reducing seizure frequency in infants with epilepsy.
