Takeaway
Individuals with Parkinson’s disease (PD) showed impaired memory strength and decreased beta power modulation after deep-semantic encoding, but not after shallow-non-semantic encoding, suggesting a role for beta activity in non-motor symptoms of PD.
Why this matters
This study suggests that dysfunctional beta oscillations are causal in PD symptomology, including non-motor symptoms, and could be a target for future PD therapies.
