Takeaway
Fractional anisotropy can predict conversion to symptomatic disease within 4 years in presymptomatic frontotemporal dementia mutation carriers.
Why this matters
Up to 20% of frontotemporal dementia is caused by pathogenic mutations, but there is no reliable tool to predict which mutation carriers will experience clinical conversion. These findings enable more accurate conversion prediction for genetic frontotemporal dementia which could provide psychological benefits and better future care.
