The globus pallidus internus is the optimal deep brain stimulation target in myoclonus dystonia with long-term benefits on motor symptoms and disability.
Why this matters
The long-term effects of pallidal deep brain stimulation in myoclonus dystonia are unknown. These important data were obtained in a cohort of myoclonus dystonia individuals with very long follow-up of pallidal and/or thalamic deep brain stimulation. The findings suggest that the globus pallidus internus is the best deep brain stimulation target in a real-world setting.
