Children with all severities of traumatic brain injury have impaired executive function that lasts up to three years post-injury.
Why this matters
This is the first study of longitudinal recovery from traumatic brain injury in children with a focus on executive function which plays key role in school and social success. The findings reveal that recovery of executive function changes over time and is not always linear, suggesting a need for repeated assessments over several years that would enable individual interventions.
