This retrospective study sheds light on the prevalence of occipital neuralgia (ON) in patients in hospital-based headache clinics:
Almost 25% of patients presenting with the main complaint of headache also had ON.
Why this matters
As untreated ON can trigger frequency and intensity of headache disorders, it is important that healthcare providers watch out for possible ON in patients attending a headache clinic.
In the future, more focus should be placed on identifying and treating ON.
