Takeaway
Patients with triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) have a higher intracranial tumor burden, which also develops at a higher rate, versus non-TNBC. Although whole brain radiation therapy (WBRT) is standard of care in patients with numerous metastases, it did not offer survival benefits in patients with TNBC.
Why this matters
Almost half of patients with TNBC develop brain metastases, but there are no extensive studies on the management of brain metastases in TNBC.
The findings from this study may influence clinical decision making, as new brain metastases may have developed from the time of initial brain imaging to radiation therapy.
