Serum biomarkers predict hemorrhagic transformation in patients with acute ischemic stroke

Serum biomarkers may help predict hemorrhagic transformation (HT) in patient with acute ischemic stroke (AIS), new study findings suggest.

Occurring in up to 10-40% of patients, HT is a complication of AIS characterized by bleeding in the ischemic zone and associated with significant morbidity and mortality, noted researchers at the Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology in Thiruvananthapuram, India.
